First Baptist Church of New Carlisle is a group of people all joined together for one purpose—to show how great God is through Jesus Christ by the power of his Spirit. Each of our members have heard Jesus’s call to deny ourselves, pick up our cross, and follow him, and we’ve responded by turning away from living for ourselves, by trusting in him to forgive us and to make us right with God through his life, death, and resurrection, and by continuing to follow his instruction.

We gather together on Sundays at 9:15am for Bible study and 10:30 for worship service with the goal of encouraging each other to rely on God’s strength to love him with everything in us and to love others as we love ourselves, and all of this is for his glory. That love for God and others compels us to encourage others to follow Jesus whether they live in New Carlisle or elsewhere in the world. We voluntarily cooperate with other like-minded churches in the Greater Dayton Association of Baptists, the State Convention of Baptists in Ohio, and the Southern Baptist Convention so that more and more can know God through his Son.

OUR HISTORY

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is God’s Word and is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the one living and true God, who is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God reveals himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence, or being. God created humanity in his own image, which means that every person of every race possesses full dignity and is worthy of respect and Christian love. Man sinned and brought sin into the human race, inclining us toward sin and condemning us all. But God offered salvation freely to all who accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. This salvation is based on God’s grace and is experienced through turning from sin toward God and through personal faith in Jesus Christ, committing entirely to him as Lord and Savior. Those whom God has accepted in Christ, and sanctified by His Spirit, will never fall away from the state of grace, but will persevere to the end. A New Testament church of the Lord Jesus Christ is an autonomous local congregation of baptized believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the two ordinances of Christ, governed by his laws, exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by his Word, and seeking to extend the gospel to the ends of the earth.

I grew up with a dad and mom who were faithful in teaching me the gospel, and by God’s grace I was called to repentance and faith in Christ at an early age. My dad and mom taught me that God was the holy creator of everything, that he ruled over his creation, and that I was a sinner, who did not submit to his rule. They taught me that God is righteous and must punish sin but that he is also gracious and loving. He sent his Son, Jesus, to earth to save sinners like me, who repent of their sin and place their complete trust in Jesus to save them. Through the Spirit’s work in my heart, I responded to the gospel with repentance and faith and began to follow Jesus Christ as my Lord.

The Lord gave me the desire to serve him by equipping other believers in a local church, and he confirmed this desire through the encouragement of other believers. I prepared by serving in the various local churches he placed me in and by studying the Bible at the Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton College Graduate School, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. It’s a privilege to serve the Lord now as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church in New Carlisle.

My wife, Laura, and I have been married since 2003, and we have four children, Micah, Mackenna, Jocelyn, and Luke. Laura and I are both from Brownsburg, Indiana, and though our children were born in Florida and Ohio, they’re raised to cheer as a family for the Hoosiers, Colts, and Pacers. However, we are learning to root for teams from Ohio too.

My goal is to preach the Word and shepherd the flock at FBCNC so that together we can learn to live out God’s Word by loving and worshiping him, loving and serving his people, and loving and evangelizing the lost.

Twenty years ago in January of 1998, I arrived back home, right here at FBCNC. My parents, Melvin and Geneva Christmas, were charter members here over 60 years ago and brought me with them at every opportunity. At age 9, I trusted in Christ during our children’s church program and have followed Him ever since. Having only served in membership at two other churches in my lifetime, I have enjoyed being a member at FBCNC for over 35 years. And now, my wife, Danese, and daughter, Emma, call this place their home, as well. I am a graduate of Liberty University Seminary as well as a music graduate of Wright State University.

Since 1998 I have served here full time as Associate Pastor among some of the greatest people on earth. My prayer for us as a church is that we continue to encourage folks of all ages to trust in Jesus and follow Him closely as evidence of their faith.
